The Concept

The research field of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine has experienced a tremendous growth in the last decade with several technologies showing promising results in pre-clinical studies that are ready to be translated from the bench top to the bedside.

A successful clinical trial involves a careful protocol design, a competent clinical research organization to fulfill all the regulatory aspects and monitoring of the trial, an adequate team of investigator with expertise in the targeted therapy and a supportive health care institution. In addition to that, cell-based therapies usually require a facility for cell culture and tissue processing. Transportation of cells and tissues from the facility to the OR can often be challenging.

In order to facilitate the translation of innovative technologies in regenerative medicine we have merged the experience of Research & Development R.A. S.A., a renowned CRO in Latin America, with the highly academic and clinical environment of Hospital Universitario Austral where we have created a state-of-the-art cell culture facility inside the OR. This new concept will facilitate cell and tissue processing within a safe environment where the patient can be treated next-door to the facility.

Established or emerging companies in Tissue Engineering can benefit from this clinical translation unit (CTU) by relying on every aspect a clinical trial, from the protocol design to the final report, including every regulatory step, investigators, and cell / tissue processing.
